1

How It Works

We follow the entire redirect chain from the URL you provide, hop by hop, recording each HTTP status code and destination URL. We detect loops, broken chains, and excessively long redirect sequences that hurt SEO and slow down page load time.

2

Why Redirects Matter for SEO

Each redirect hop adds latency and dilutes link equity (PageRank). Google recommends a maximum of 3 redirect hops in a chain. A single 302 (temporary) instead of 301 (permanent) can prevent SEO value from flowing to the final URL. Broken redirect chains cause 404 errors.

3

What We Detect

Redirect type (301, 302, 303, 307, 308), chain length, loop detection (infinite redirects), mixed protocol redirects (HTTP→HTTPS→HTTP), subdomain redirects, trailing slash redirects, and whether the final destination resolves correctly.

4

Pro Tips for Redirect Management

Audit your redirect chain quarterly. Update old redirects to point directly to the final URL. Never chain more than 3 redirects. Use 301 for permanent moves and 302 only for temporary promotions. After site migrations, run a full crawl to catch redirect orphans.
